Boston Authorities are Paranoid
February 1, 2007 on 3:42 pm | In Junk Drawer | 2 CommentsA marketing campaign was mistaken as an IED. Give me a break Boston PD. A cartoon promotion with a funny neon dude giving the finger is no treat to national security. I can’t help but wonder exactly how they determined it was dangerous? The placement? OK then let’s just freak out every time someone litters on a bridge or over-pass. Or could it be the batteries? Boy that means my kids have a toy box full of dangerous devices. Oh yeah it had wires!!! Oh shit look out!. I would think they would be able to determine the harmless nature of this in short order. It’s not as if somebody claimed it was a bomb or something. I hope whoever first called this in is proud of themselves. We live in a paranoid world thanks to september 11th. Which of course has been repeatedly magnified by the Bush administration’s repeated cries that we should all cower in fear. Let’s all be afraid together so the big bad people will not get us. What ever happened to the only thing to fear is fear itself. The government is playing into the hands of terrorists by insisting we should all be afraid and look out for bad guys around every corner.

Flavored Coffee
January 1, 2007 on 3:40 pm | In Junk Drawer | 5 CommentsI like Suisse Mocha, and it sure is better than plain old ground whole bean coffee for a change. I take my coffee black and drink coffee all day every day. But I do like to make a change every now and then to something with a little more flavor & sweetness. Today my choise is Suisse Mocha and it really hit the spot!

So much for an all volunteer military
August 23, 2006 on 6:56 am | In Junk Drawer | 1 CommentWith our troops being stretched to there limits in Iraq & Afghanistan many of our brave men & women are choosing not to volunteer for repeated tours of duty. It seems the days of enlisting for a four year term and getting out are over for now. Many call this a backdoor draft which is somewhat accurate. Although all who serve do agree to the option of being called up from inactive reserves once completing their active obligations, I doubt many would have seen this as actual reality until recently. This will just add to the short falls on new enlistments in the long run. Today’s reality is that a new recruit knows going in that the four year tour of duty is a thing of the past. Nobody likes to enter into a contract with an unknown term, which is what this amount to. The negative impact on troup moral will gradually spiral downward as more and more are forced to serve beyond their original active obligation. Recruiting numbers will be severly impacted which will continue the need for involuntary recalls.
